What is it ?
File Transfer Protocol. Once you have designed your website on your
computer at home you need a way of transferring the files onto our servers
so that they can be seen by the world, this is where FTP comes in.
Why should I use it ?
Easy way of uploading your web files onto our servers.
How do I use it ?
First of all you will need some FTP software, don't panic ! You can get
several for free and they will perform perfectly well for most users. If
you decide you need a program with more features then you will have to buy
one although even then they are fairly cheap.
When you first use the program you will need to enter some information :

Just pick a name you want to use, usually just the
same as the Domain Name. |
| Host Name / Address |
yoursite.com |
| Host Type |
Usually leave on just 'Automatic' otherwise use '
UNIX standard ' |
| User ID |
Your Username we sent you |
| Password |
Your Password we sent you |
When you first log on using an FTP program you will notice that the site
looks something like ( Note that each program will be slightly different )

You will need to go up a couple of
levels, in this example using the green arrow.
Note ' hemda ' will just be whatever your username is. |

Once in the root directory
you will need to change into the ' web ' directory. |

This is where you need to
upload your files. Note that there is already a ' index.html '
file there. Just delete this one. |
